The Greenlink project has required onshore and offshore planning consents in both Ireland and Wales.
Great Island has been identified as the appropriate location for the connection of the Greenlink interconnector to the existing EirGrid infrastructure. This followed a review of existing grid infrastructure and connection options. Studies are being commenced with EirGrid to confirm the final design, and the connection process is under discussion with EirGrid and the CRU.
In Ireland, Greenlink will consist of a converter station sited close to the existing Great Island substation and underground cabling, which will predominantly be routed within the local road network.
Various detailed technical and environmental surveys have been carried out during the development process to ensure that the final design fully incorporates the challenges and opportunities of the local environment.
Technical and environmental studies have included:
Bird Studies
Avian impact assessments
Ecological Assessments
Habitat and biodiversity evaluations
Construction Studies
Access and methodology planning
Visual Impact
Landscape and visual assessments
Noise Assessments
Acoustic impact analysis
Transport Studies
Traffic and transport assessments
Heritage Assessments
Cultural heritage impact studies
Geological Studies
Ground and subsurface analysis
Hydrology Studies
Water resource and drainage assessments
The developer of the Greenlink project strongly believes that a proactive and constructive dialogue with stakeholders throughout the development programme resulted in a high quality application and project design.
Local Procurement Opportunities
Construction of Greenlink is expected to lead to significant expenditure in Ireland. We are committed to maximising the use of locally-based contractors and personnel during the construction and operational phases of the project and are always keen to hear of local businesses that could benefit.
In November 2021 we held a well-attended Meet the Buyer event in Wexford. If you are a local supplier who has goods or services you think might be of interest, please visit the Suppliers and Procurement page and submit your details.
