The Greenlink project has required onshore and offshore planning consents in both Wales and Ireland. A electricity grid connection agreement for 500MW is already in place between Greenlink and the UK's National Grid for a connection at Pembroke Substation in Wales.

In Wales, Greenlink will consist of a converter station sited close to the existing Pembroke substation and underground cabling that will predominantly be routed across agricultural land.

Various detailed technical and environmental surveys have been carried out during the development process to ensure that the final design fully incorporates the challenges and opportunities of the local environment.

Technical and environmental studies have included:

Bird Studies

Avian impact assessments

Ecological Assessments

Habitat and biodiversity evaluations

Construction Studies

Access and methodology planning

Visual Impact

Landscape and visual assessments

Noise Assessments

Acoustic impact analysis

Transport Studies

Traffic and transport assessments

Heritage Assessments

Cultural heritage impact studies

Geological Studies

Ground and subsurface analysis

Hydrology Studies

Water resource and drainage assessments

The developer of the Greenlink project strongly believes that a proactive and constructive dialogue with stakeholders throughout the development programme resulted in a high quality application and project design.

Local Procurement Opportunities

Construction of Greenlink is expected to lead to significant expenditure in Wales. We are committed to maximising the use of locally-based contractors and personnel during the construction and operational phases of the project.

In November 2021 we held a well-attended Meet the Buyer event in Pembroke. If you are a local supplier who has goods or services you think might be of interest, please visit the Suppliers and Procurement page and submit your details.
